Electric air handlers for AC and heat pump systems
The air handler is the indoor half of an electric split system. It holds the evaporator coil and blower that move conditioned air through your ducts. We carry more than 20 air handlers from Goodman, Rheem, Frigidaire and Oxbox by Trane, from 1.5 to 5 tons. Buy one to replace a failed indoor unit or to pair with a new condenser.
Matching an air handler
- Refrigerant: every air handler here is built for R-454B or R-32. Pair it with an outdoor unit using the same refrigerant.
- Capacity: match the air handler's tonnage to the outdoor unit.
- Cabinet width: common widths are 17.5", 21" and 24.5". Measure your closet or platform before ordering.
- Position: every model here is multi-position, installing upflow, downflow or horizontal.
Blower options
Standard multi-speed blowers keep the cost down. Variable-speed and modulating models adjust airflow to the system's demand, which improves humidity control and lowers energy use, especially when paired with a two-stage or variable-speed outdoor unit.
Adding heat: air handlers don't heat on their own. Add an electric heat kit matched to the air handler model for backup or primary heat.

Frequently asked questions
Can I replace just my air handler?
Yes, if the new air handler matches your outdoor unit's refrigerant and tonnage. A mismatched pair loses efficiency and may void the warranty.
Do air handlers work with heat pumps?
Many do. Check the product page for approved heat pump pairings, or call us with both model numbers.
