Packaged air conditioners
A packaged air conditioner puts the compressor, coils and blower in one outdoor cabinet that connects straight to your ductwork. It's the go-to choice for homes on slabs, mobile and manufactured homes, and buildings with no room for indoor equipment. We carry electric packaged AC units from Goodman, Rheem and Frigidaire, from 2 to 5 tons.
What to know before you buy
- Efficiency: these units are rated 13.4 SEER2, the federal minimum for packaged air conditioners.
- Refrigerant: all use R-454B or R-32, the lower-GWP refrigerants required in systems made since 2025.
- Ductwork: check where your supply and return ducts connect (side or bottom) and confirm the unit's duct configuration on the product page.
- Heat: an electric packaged AC cools only. Add a matching electric heat kit for heat, or choose a packaged heat pump for heating and cooling in one cabinet.
Placement
Packaged units sit on a ground pad or a roof curb. Measure the existing pad or curb before ordering, since footprints vary by brand and tonnage. Replacing a unit with the same footprint keeps installation simpler.
Shipping, returns and warranty
Manufacturer warranties apply when a licensed HVAC contractor installs the equipment.
Frequently asked questions
Packaged unit or split system?
A packaged unit saves indoor space and is often simpler to install. A split system usually offers higher efficiency and quieter operation indoors.
Do I need a crane for installation?
Ground-level installs usually don't. Rooftop installs often do, so plan this with your contractor.
