Outdoor heat pump units
The heat pump condenser is the outdoor half of a heat pump system. Buy one on its own when only the outdoor unit needs replacing and your indoor air handler or coil is a good match. We carry more than 50 heat pump condensers from Rheem, Goodman, Tuttokool, Frigidaire, Oxbox by Trane, Carrier and Bosch, from 1.5 to 5 tons.
Matching the indoor unit
- Refrigerant: most condensers here use R-454B or R-32. They can't run on an older R-410A air handler or coil, so a refrigerant change usually means replacing the indoor unit too.
- Capacity: match the indoor unit's tonnage to the condenser.
- Approved pairing: check the AHRI match so the system keeps its rated SEER2, HSPF2 and warranty.
If your indoor unit doesn't match, a heat pump split system or heat pump + coil set is the simpler choice.
Efficiency
Condensers here run from 14 to over 20 SEER2, in single-stage, two-stage and variable-speed designs. Variable-speed models give the steadiest comfort and the best cold-weather heating.

Can I replace an AC condenser with a heat pump?
Often, yes, if the indoor air handler or coil is approved for heat pump use. Your contractor will also need a heat pump thermostat.
