Packaged heat pumps
A packaged heat pump puts the whole heating and cooling system in one outdoor cabinet that connects to your ductwork. It's a common choice for slab homes, manufactured homes and buildings with no room for indoor equipment. We carry more than 35 packaged heat pumps from Goodman, Oxbox by Trane, Tempstar, Rheem, Frigidaire and Hisense, from 2 to 5 tons.
What to know before you buy
- Efficiency: most units are 13.4 SEER2, the federal minimum for packaged equipment, with higher-efficiency options up to 18 SEER2, including Hisense inverter models.
- Refrigerant: nearly all use R-454B or R-32.
- Ductwork: check where your supply and return ducts connect (side or bottom) and confirm the unit's duct configuration on the product page.
- Backup heat: in colder climates, add an electric heat kit approved for the unit.
Placement
Packaged units sit on a ground pad or a roof curb. Measure the existing pad or curb before ordering, since footprints vary by brand and tonnage.
Shipping, returns and warranty
Manufacturer warranties apply when a licensed HVAC contractor installs the equipment.
Frequently asked questions
Packaged heat pump or split system?
