Complete heat pump split systems
A heat pump split system pairs an outdoor heat pump with a matched indoor air handler, so one system heats in winter and cools in summer. We carry more than 100 complete systems from Goodman, Rheem, Bosch, Frigidaire, Tuttokool, Oxbox by Trane, Guardian and Airevantage, from 1.5 to 5 tons.
Efficiency ratings
SEER2 (cooling)
Systems here run from 14 to 19 SEER2.
HSPF2 (heating)
Listed ratings run from about 7.5 to 12.5 HSPF2. Higher means lower winter bills.
Comfort options
Single-stage systems run at full output whenever they're on. Two-stage systems run at a lower setting most of the time. Variable-speed and inverter systems, including Bosch and Rheem inverter models, adjust output in small steps for the most even temperatures, better humidity control and stronger cold-weather performance.
Sizing, backup heat and refrigerant
- Sizing: heat pumps are sized by cooling tonnage first. Start with our AC sizing calculator, and have your contractor confirm the system can meet your winter heating load.
- Backup heat: in most climates, add an electric heat kit to the air handler.
- Refrigerant: most systems use R-454B or R-32, with a few R-410A systems still listed.

The outdoor heat pump and the matched indoor air handler. Heat kits, line sets and thermostats are sold separately.
Heat pump or furnace and AC?
In warm and mixed climates a heat pump usually costs less to run. In cold climates, a gas furnace or a dual fuel setup handles deep winter more cheaply.
