The RHEEM EEMAX & ECOSMART IFR1-2 threads onto the heater outlet and uses interchangeable inserts (1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 GPM included) to cap maximum flow at a rate the unit can actually heat. That prevents the water from outrunning the heater’s kW capacity, so outlet temperature stays closer to the setpoint even if more fixtures open.
