The RHEEM EEMAX & ECOSMART IFR3-4 is a pressure-compensating inline flow restrictor designed to keep electric tankless water heaters from being overdriven. When too much water passes through a tankless unit, the heater cannot raise the temperature enough, which leads to lukewarm water and common fault codes such as E5 / 05. This fitting limits maximum flow to a selected GPM while adding almost no pressure drop below that setpoint, so the heater can hold the desired outlet temperature even when more than one fixture is open.
It threads onto the heater outlet (or anywhere in the hot line after the heater) and includes interchangeable inserts for 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, and 5.0 GPM. Choose the insert that matches your heater’s kW rating and incoming water temperature so the unit stays within its heating capacity. The result is more consistent hot water, fewer error trips, and better performance from undersized or high-demand installations.
